V for Vedema

The locals call “vedema” the wine harvest. In fact, “big vedema" refers to grape harvesting while "small vedema” to picking the Santorinian small, cherry tomatoes. According to a version, the word "vedema" means abundance and prosperity. In the past, vedema was a great celebration and grape stomping was accompanied by feasts and songs.
So, if you want to know “vedema” better and get a taste of traditional Santorini, you can attend today the yearly celebration of “vedema” in Santo Wines Winery, in Pyrgos. In the celebration, you will be able to watch wine stomping and a surprise (to celebrate the 70 years of operation), and enjoy live traditional music, island food and plenty of wine for free.
