Fair in Foinikia

Each year on October 19th is the great feast of Agia Matrona, at the center of the village of Foinikia. One of the most popular fairs of the island, both for locals and for visitors, who join the celebration and enjoy the food and wine while dancing and singing till late, well after midnight.
The church of Agia Matrona was built in the 19th century. The feast starts with the procession of the Holy Icon of Agia Matrona around the streets and alleys and of the village, all decorated with rosemary. Then many local specialties are offered for free, accompanied by local wine and live traditional music and dance. Do not miss this opportunity for an autumn feast tonight!
