Panagia Katefiani

One of the most popular fairs is held on the 7th September each year. It is the fair at Panagia Katefiani, the characteristic small white church perched under a rock, high on the mountain over Perissa.
To celebrate Virgin Mary’s birthday, on 8th September, the faithful go to the church on the eve, in the afternoon, to attend the evening mass. As it is quite difficult to reach the church (you need to walk uphill on a trail for about 20 minutes), people stay overnight, chatting, eating and spending their night. On the day of the celebration, after morning service, a fair follows, where free food and wine is shared with everyone.
So, if you are interested in getting a glimpse of authentic and traditional Santorini, then it is a great opportunity to attend the fair!
