Saint Irini Fair....

Tomorrow, 5 May, is the celebration of St. Irene. Actually, it could be the official celebration of Santorini, as the name “Santa Irene” denotes! It is a custom to hold festivities at churches dedicated to Santa Irene that stand in almost every village on the island. There is a festivity at the small church of Agia Irini, in the road connecting Fira with Pyrgos, next to the Mexican restaurant, right over the caldera. Many other churches also celebrate today, like the ones in Megalohori, Messaria, Emporio and Vourvoulos. If you pass next to a church beautifully decorated with small colorful flags, don’t miss the opportunity for photographs and why not join in the celebrations that take place in the morning, after the liturgy.
