1st May - Celebration of spring

1st May is considered the celebration and rebirth of spring, nature and flowers, as spring now beats the winter blues. The boys and girls go out in the fields and “catch May”, as we say in Greek, that is they make flower wreaths. The wreaths are hung on the house doors until 24th June, when, on the celebration of Agios Ioannis Klidonas, they are thrown into the bonfires which are lit in the village squares.
