"Anedosa"
Υou
probably have noticed yesterday something really peculiar: a thick cloud raising
quickly on the west side of the caldera and spreading mostly to Pyrgos,
Akrotiri, Imerovigli and Fira. You, the lucky visitors of Santorini, have
experienced the rare local natural phenomenon “anedosa”, which is generated by
the temperature difference between the volcano and the island, especially with
west winds. It looks like fog or smoke which is full of humidity. It rises
abruptly from the caldera spreading onto the rest of the island and then
dissolves. Because of the lack of rain,
“anedosa” is thus considered beneficial for the island, as it provides the
necessary humidity to the vines.
