Local celebrations

Today is the celebration day of “Christ the Saviour” (Sotiras), and all the churches that are dedicated to him at Emporeio, Pyrgos and Fira are having fests. The most outstanding of all is the one at Pyrgos village, with the beautiful central church of the high dome filled with pots of basil plants. It is a tradition for young men to steal the basil pots from the girls’ yards and balconies and decorate the church with them. The celebrations begin from the previous evening, with food, fava beans and tomatoballs that local women cook, plenty of wine, traditional music orchestra and of course dance.
So, don’t forget to attend the fest of Pyrgos to the central square of the village an have a great time with the locals.
