If you want to experience the Greek hospitality in its
purest form, you can
join
a traditional Cycladic feast.
On the day a Saint is celebrated, after the morning
service at the church, a feast usually follows named “panigyri”, which includes
free food and wine, courtesy of the family who organizes the event. Food or
traditional fava is cooked at massive cauldrons in the church court and then
offered to the worshipers. In larger festivals, especially those held in the
evening, local musicians play until late and lure guests into long hours of
dancing!
So, join a feast in the churches of Agia Anna in either Megalochori or Vothonas
after 10am. Do not forget your camera to photograph the domes and bell towers
of the churches that are beautifully decorated with colorful flags and the blue
sky at the background!
