World Food Day

Today, 16 October is World Food Day. The Greek islands eating habits have always been healthy, although the quantity was quite limited in the past. The islanders’ diet consisted mainly of fresh fish (obviously!), and pulses, which formed the basis for the famous Mediterranean diet.
More specifically, Santorini is considered unique, owing to the special ecosystem, created by the continuous explosions of the volcano and the lava that burned the rocks and made the land absorbing, porous and rich in pumice.
In this volcanic ecosystem, it is natural to expect products with unique characteristics to be produced: Assyrtiko grapes, fava beans, small cherry tomatoes, white eggplants, anhydrous cucumbers etc.
