Volcano tour

The famous active volcano is the youngest piece of land in Europe. The two islands located in the center of the caldera, Palea and Nea Kameni, are about 1500 and 425 years old respectively and have been created by the various newer eruptions, that is from 197 BC up to AD 1950.
A trip to these lavas is well worth the uphill hiking. You should be extra careful to wear hiking boots and not flip flops (the temperature in the black lava can be very high!), a hat and light colored clothing.
