"Kalo Mina" = Have a great month!

October was named after the Latin word Octo (meaning eight, the same is in Greek), the eighth month in the ancient Roman calendar of total ten months. Later on with the addition of January and February, the Roman calendar numbered twelve months; October moved to the tenth place, but kept its old name!
Perhaps the most fertile month of the year marks the start of the cycle of agricultural work due to the good weather and because of the beneficial rains at sowing.
The wine production continues and the locals in Santorini have started a process called “pastrema” at the vines, that is the first clearing of the vine branches before the pruning during the winter. The good news is that October is also called “little summer” because of the good weather prevailing at most of October days!
