Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum of Fira was built in 1960 and replaced the old museum which was built in 1902, thanks to German Professor Hiller von Gaertringen, but collapsed in the 1956 earthquake. The Professor excavated the archaeological site of Ancient Thera at the end of the 19th century and brought to light this wonderful city, the findings of which are housed in the Archaeological Museum.
Highlight: The Thirean amphora dating from the 7th century BC with the geometric decoration and shapes.
Open daily except Mondays (08.30 – 15.00)
