Journey to the past

Yesterday evening was special for the village of Pyrgos. Out of the castle entrance, the Estia of Pyrgos Cultural Association had organised an exhibition of photographs, documents and materials entitled "Scenes from the recent past: Land, Production and Society in Santorini of the 60s" assisted by architect Tonia Nousia, to remind us of Santorini in the 1960s.

The island of Santorini before touristic development was very different, with a completely different daily routine.
During the opening ceremony the amazing documentary "Thirean Matins”, filmed in Santorini in 1967, wias shown
It was followed by a moving discussion on "What I see I've lived: when experience becomes history" with live narrations  about the everyday life of the island by people who lived during that decade and worked in the quarries, in the tomato factories, as farmers and as teachers.
